 Pope County is a county located in the U.S. state of Arkansas. As of 2009, the population was 60,214. The county seat is Russellville. The county was formed on November 2, 1829, from a portion of Crawford County and named for John Pope, the third governor of the Arkansas Territory. It is an alcohol prohibition or dry county.

Pope County was created on 2 November 1829 and was formed from Crawford County. It was named after Gov. John Pope. The county seat was at Scotia in 1830, moved to Dwight Mission, then to Norristown on the Arkansas River (no longer exists), Dover in 1841, and finally Russellville in 1887, where it has remained. It lies in the heart of the Arkansas River Valley and its land is conducive to farming, the timber industry and river-related activities.
